St. Andrews Bowling Club has been in existence since 31st January 1952.
The Club has the use of 6 well-maintained Outdoor Rinks. In 1986, 2 Indoor Rinks
were built and a third was added in 1994, when the new Club House was also built.
St. Andrews Bowling Club has achieved many honours over the years, as have
individual Members; most notably, WILF FIRBY won the Somerset County Champion
of Champions in 2000, and ERIC SANDALL was Runner-Up in the E.B.A. National
Singles in 1970. TONY HYDE, GORDON WRIDE, TONY STEER, and TIM LINTELL-SMITH
were Runners-Up in the Somerset County Fours, and played at Worthing, in 1998.
The Club has facilities for the disabled Bowler; Members from the William Knowles
Centre regularly use the facilities and, to date, have won 36 medals in the
Special Olympics. The Weston Blind Bowlers also enjoy playing on our Outdoor Rinks.
Since 2004, the Club have hosted the JOHN MORSE OPEN WHEELCHAIR PAIRS TOURNAMENT,
an outdoor event which has been an enormous sucess. The Club thanks
John for his continuous donations to the Prize Money, and it's hoped that entries will keep
increasing, as they have done since the inauguration of the Tournament.
Entry is open to ANYONE who is wheelchair-bound, partnered by any player
of their choosing.
In the late 90's, the Association of St. Andrews Bowling Club was formed;
the Association undertakes the responsibility of the general day-to-day running
of the Club premises.
